Mystery shrouds man’s death, wife booked

A married man died under mysterious circumstances at his house in Bhora village, near Salem Tabri.

The family of the deceased, alleging death due to torture by his wife and mother-in-law, held a dharna outside the Salem Tabri police station. They kept the body outside the police station, following which the police registered an abetment to suicide case against the wife of the deceased.

However, the in-laws of the deceased alleged that Sumit had died due to the excessive consumption of alcohol. The Salem Tabri police had earlier in the day assured the kin of the deceased that the viscera was sent to a forensic laboratory and if the report signalled unnatural death, the police would take action as per the law.

The victim’s family, meanwhile, demanded the registration of a case against the wife and mother-in-law of the man on the basis of the suicide note. After a long protest by the family of the deceased, a case was registered by the police.

The victim’s family said the father-in-law of the deceased was in the Police Department due to which cops were delaying the registration of case. Darshan Sharma, father of the deceased, told the police that on Friday, his son had called him and told him “about his mental and physical torture by his wife and in-laws for the want of share in parental property”. “I then immediately reached Sumit’s house and called the police. Cops then calmed down Sumit and his in-laws. The moment I left, I got a call from my grandson who informed me about the death of Sumit. We know Sumit was killed by his wife and in-laws,” alleged the father of the deceased. SHO Salem Tabri, Gopal Krishan, confirmed the registration of the case.
