Murder accused flees from jail

Ludhiana: A day after the Daba police nabbed three accused who were drug addicts and snatchers in a blind murder case of a youth, one of the accused broke open the Daba police station lock-up and escaped. Charging police personnel on duty for adopting a negligent attitude in the matter, the Daba police registered a case against munshi Roshanpreet and constable Budhi Raj. The incident occured in the wee hours of Friday when the police officials on duty were reportedly slept and the accused broke open the iron grill of a window of the lock-up and fled. The incident came to the fore in the morning when the police personnel went to check the lock-up and found him missing. The accused has been identified as Harvinder Singh Lalli. The other two accused Gurmeet Singh and Tej Ram are lodged in the jail. ADCP Jaskiranjit Singh Teja said the Daba police had been conducting raids to nab the suspected hideout of the accused. He would be nabbed soon. Notably, the Daba police had yesterday nabbed three persons who had killed a youth, Amandeep Singh, while attempting to snatch a mobile phone from him. TNS
