Ludhiana, May 31

As yet another step towards resuming normal operations after more than two months of the Covid-19 lockdown, the Railways would start operation of another 100 pairs of fully reserved trains from today (June 1). Of these, eight trains would run from the region, all of them passing through Ludhiana.

This initiative is being seen as a step towards restoration of normal run of the train services across the country in a staggered manner. In addition to Shramik Special trains launched by the Indian Railways in the first week of May to transport migrant labour back to their native places across the country, the Railways started operation of another 15 pairs of special trains from May 12.

Railway officials said these would be fully reserved trains having both AC and non-AC classes. General (GS) coaches would also have reserved seats. The fare shall be normal, and for general (GS) coaches, being reserved, second seating (2S) fare would be charged and all travelling passengers would be provided seats.

assengers would be encouraged to carry their own food and drinking water. However, all static catering and vending units at railway stations would remain open. No linen, blankets and curtains shall be provided on the trains.

The Railways has made an appeal to the passengers travelling by these trains to deboard only at the designated stations of journey as the authorities at the destinations would have to carry out SOP (standard operating procedure) of the deboarding passengers.
