Ludhiana, November 9

The commuters are a harried lot as the Municipal Corporation (MC) has failed to ensure the repair of the potholed roads of Model Town in Ludhiana.

The Revolving Restaurant road near Arya Samaj Mandir is badly broken, while potholes on the main road of Gol Market near the post office are also crying for attention.

The potholes in some other parts of Model Town, including near Bikaner Sweets Street, have also not been repaired. Residents said two-wheelers generally lose balance while passing through these roads, but the civic body had been ignoring the condition of these roads.

The residents and shopkeepers here have demanded from the MC to pay repair the roads at the earliest. A store owner on the Revolving Restaurant road said the road was in a shambles for the past three-four years and even no patch work had been carried out.

“Plumes of dust are raised whenever vehicles pass through the broken stretch. The chances of mishaps are always high here due to the broken stretch. We request the MC authorities to direct the staff concerned to ensure the repair of the road at the earliest,” he said.

A visitor, Satinder Singh, said Model Town is a posh area and Gol Market is one of the major markets of the city. He said, “I have been witnessing potholes near the post office in the market for past some time. It is the responsibility of the civic body to carry out timely patch work as residents pay huge taxes to the government.”

Girl seriously hurt in accident

A girl on a scooter was badly injured and fell unconscious after getting a head injury when she came across a manhole on a stretch in the Model Town here today. She was admitted in a nearby hospital. A resident Jaskirat Singh said, “This is not the first accident involving this pothole here. An FIR should be registered against the MC officials concerned for ignoring the killer pothole on Suman Hospital Road. Have reported it many times and getting it fixed twice by following it up with the MC officials, a shoddy job was done as it opened up again within days. The MC should be held responsible for this accident.”

Councillor’s promise

Councillor from Ward No. 46, Harbhajan Singh Dang, said the potholes on the Revolving restaurant side would be repaired by Wednesday. He, however, claimed that the Gol market road near the police station fell under another ward. MC’s B&R official concerned Balwinder Singh said they would take the required steps to conduct the patch work on the Revolving Restaurant road, Gol market road and others soon.
