One side of the reconstructed Jagraon Bridge was opened to light vehicular traffic on a ‘trial basis’ on Tuesday. Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu ordered for the opening of the bridge.
However, road work on the other half of the bridge is still incomplete. Sources said the Railway officials wanted that the bridge be opened to traffic only after completion of road work.
Sandhu said the bridge had been opened to light vehicles. “The remaining road work will be completed by the Railways by Wednesday. The bridge will be then opened to all kinds of vehicles, including heavy ones,” he said.
