Barnala man held with illegal pistol, cartridges

Ludhiana, July 8

The Police Division 7 today arrested a Barnala-based man and recovered .30 bore countrymade pistol along with five live cartridges from him.

The suspect has been identified as Balwant Singh, alias Babbu, a resident of Dhilawan village, Barnala.

ADCP Tushar Gupta, ACP Gurdev Singh, Inspector Amandeep Singh Brar addressed a press conference in this regard on Friday.

ADCP Tushar said the police party was conducting a routine patrolling at Sanjay Gandhi Colony where on suspicion, a pedestrian was asked to stop for checking. The suspect instead of stopping at the naka, tried to flee the spot. However, the police nabbed him after a chase. During search, illegal weapon with cartridges were recovered from him.

Brar said the suspect was also asked to produce the licence of the weapon but he failed to do so. He admitted that he was possessing an illegal weapon.

A case under the Arms Act was registered against him at Police Division 7 and further questioning was on to know if he used the illegal weapon to commit any crime.

Even the weapon supplier, who supplied the pistol to the suspect, would also be identified.
