Additional Sessions Judge KK Jain has convicted Mohinder Pal Singh, alias Amandeep Singh, resident of Jagraon, on the charges of sexual assault on a 12-year-old girl.
He was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 10 years. A fine of Rs 1 lakh was also imposed on the convict. The court also made it clear that the entire fine amount, when recovered, would be paid to the victim as compensation.
Divulging details, Special Public Prosecutor Monika Gupta said a case against Mohinder Pal Singh was registered on July 10, 2018, at the Hathoor police station following the written complaint of the father of the victim.
The complainant had stated to the police that on the intervening night of July 7 and 8 in 2018, Mohinder Pal Singh scaled the wall of their house. At that time his daughter was sleeping in the courtyard. Mohinder Pal Singh sexually assaulted his daughter. When she raised alarm, his wife tried to catch Mohinder Pal Singh but he fled away, though his mobile phone fell down, which was with them.
However, Mohinder Pal Singh pleaded innocence and claimed false implication. But after appreciating the evidence on record and convinced with the submissions of the Additional Public Prosecutor, the court found him guilty and sentenced accordingly under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
