Ludhiana, June 24

A major fire broke out at a garment store in Char Khamba Road, Model Town, Ludhiana, on Friday morning.

The three-storey building of ‘Lucky Towel House’ was gutted and the entire stock of garments of various brands was reduced to ashes.

The incident occurred at around 10am. The flames started from the ground floor. While the shopowner and his employees also tried to douse the flames, they were unable to control the blaze which intensified in a short time. Employees then rushed out to save their lives. Most of the stock of expensive branded clothes worth lakhs was gutted.

The police faced a tough time in managing the crowd as people gathered there and started making videos on their mobile phones.

Giving details, fire officials said some fluctuation in electricity supply was reported in the shop on Thursday and a mechanic was called but the problem could not be resolved. On Friday, electricity supply in the entire market had developed a snag and PSPCL employees were called, but sudden sparking inside the shop caused fire.

Model Town Market Association president Advocate Amarjit Singh said he had called the fire brigade after coming to know about the incident.
