Ludhiana, July 11

Despite several road accidents, the Muncipal Corporation (MC) has failed to repair the potholed stretch outside the Bhadaur House market, which is at a walking distance from the MC Headquarters.

A number of potholes which were earlier filled in old city areas have re-appeared. Adequate steps should be taken to avoid mishaps. Safety of commuters must be ensured on the roads. — Parminder Mehta, former councillor

Recently, a 50-year-old man, identified as Naresh Kumar, received injuries when he fell down while passing over the stretch near Bhadaur House. Residents have raised questions on the working of the MC as no patchwork had been started till now. After the recent rainfall, troubles of commuters have increased.

Sharing his concern, Naresh Kumar has urged the civic body authorities to take required steps to repair the broken stretch outside the AC market near Bhadaur House to avoid such mishaps. People working at a nearby office also raised concern over the matter.

After the recent spell of rain, several potholes have also appeared in other parts of the city as well. Amid such scenario, the MC’s hot mix plant has been lying defunt.

A former councillor, Parminder Mehta, said the civic body should conduct a survey in the city as many potholes have appeared after rainfall too. “A number of potholes which were earlier filled in old city areas have re-appeared. Adequate steps should be taken to avoid mishaps and safety of commuters should be ensured on city roads,” he added.

Road recarpeting from Monday, says Mayor

Internal roads of Dairy Complex, Hambran Road, here are in a pathetic condition. Despite repeated demand of diary owners, these have not been repaired or carpeted till now. A worker at Dairy Complex said, “Due to the accumulation of water, it is difficult to walk or drive through these roads. Two-wheeler riders often lose balance while driving on these. The MC is not paying attention to our woes.”

Over a year ago, the project to recarpet the road was inaugurated but the MC failed to recarpet these roads. Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu said potholes on city roads would be repaired by placing tiles with sand from Monday. The dairy complex roads will be recarpeted under the PIDB funds soon, he added.
