Ludhiana, April 12

A 44-year-old woman, who had got registered a rape case against LIP chief Simarjit Singh Bains last year, today created a scene in front of chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW) Rekha Sharma.

Rekha Sharma had come to the Circuit House here for ‘Mahila Jansunwai’ where over 120 women victims of various criminal cases apprised the former of their complaints.

When the NCW Chairperson was listening to the women, the rape victim entered the hall and asked her to give directions to the Ludhiana police for the immediate arrest of the former MLA. She accused the Ludhiana police of not arresting him due to his political connections.

She also held minor arguments with the Joint CP woman rank officer over the issue. Her lawyer Harish Dhanda had also reached the spot but the Chairperson didn’t entertain him on the plea that lawyers were not allowed in their meetings.

Later, the NCW Chairperson called the Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana, and asked him for necessary action in the rape case.

Meanwhile, some women alleged police inaction in their domestic violence complaints and some accused police personnel of rude behaviour. Some of the women asked the Chairperson to take regular updates about their pending complaints from the police. —
