Ludhiana medics join hands in fight against tuberculosis

Paediatricians from the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), Dayanand Medical College and Ludhiana Academy of Paediatrics participated in a national tuberculosis elimination programme training workshop at the CMCH.

Dr Shiv Gupta, president, LAP, highlighted the importance of National Tuberculosis Day. observed every year March 24 to raise awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB, and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic. Dr Monika Sharma, professor, Paediatrics, CMCH, Ludhiana, stressed upon the need for paediatricians to work towards diagnosing tuberculosis in children and ensuring that every child received the complete treatment to prevent development of resistance. Dr Ashwani Singhal, secretary, LAP, welcomed the district tuberculosis officer Dr Chawla and WHO consultant Dr Pooja Kapoor. Dr Chawla and Dr Pooja informed the participants of the efforts of the government and the tuberculosis elimation programme and mentioned the incentives and benefits to children and their families.

Dr Puneet Pooni, Head, Pediatrics, DMC, who jointly organised the event emphasised on the various tests for rapid diagnosis of tuberculosis in children. Dr Daljit Singh, Professor of Pediatrics from Amritsar, Dr Baljinder Kaur, Professor of Pediatrics from Patiala and Dr Roosy Aulakh, a paediatrician, talked about the nitty-gritties of diagnosis and management of various types of tuberculosis.
