Ludhiana District remains at receiving end

Covid-19 today claimed 19 more lives, including a 15-year-old boy, and infected 438 persons in the district today. Most deceased were in the age group of 60-90 years.

Those who died include a 15-year-old boy from Prem Nagar in Lohara, a 75-year-old woman from Chandar Nagar, a 60-year-old man from Rishi Nagar, a 78-year-old man from Aggar Nagar, a 90-year-old woman from Rishi Nagar, a 56-year-old man from Shaheed Karnail Singh Nagar, a 67-year-old man from Janta Colony, a 44-year-old man from Mullanpur, a 55-year-old man from Samrala Road in Khanna, a 64-year-old woman from Khanna, a 65-year-old man from Kalghidhar, a 35-year-old man from Shimlapuri, a 53-year-old man from Amargarh, an 82-year-old woman from Basti Jodhewal, a 53-year-old woman from Balmiki Nagar, a 67-year-old man from Adarsh Nagar, a 60-year-old man from Boparai Khurd, a 77-year-old man from Doraha and an 80-year-old man from Jalandhar Bypass area.

Of the 438 fresh infections, 120 patients with influenza-like illness reported at flu corners while 145 patients were diagnosed at OPDs. Twentyseven cases emerged during contact tracing. The infected persons include 12 healthcare workers, two policemen, five pregnant women and two under-trials have tested positive for virus.

Five patients are suffering from severe acute respiratory infections (SARI).

The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said 2,02,413 persons have been tested so far in the district. A total of 14,622 confirmed cases have been reported, of which 11,990 (81.9%) patients have recovered to till date, he said.

The Health Department today confirmed that 27 persons, including 19 from Ludhiana and eight from other districts or states, lost their lives to Covid-19 today. A total of 607 persons belonging to Ludhiana district have died of the virus.

At present, 49 patients are on ventilator in the district. A total of 4,991 samples were collected for Covid-19 test today.
