Ludhiana district tally of Covid cases up by 41, woman accused found infected

After the Police Department, Covid-19 has cast its shadow on the district administration too. Two top officials, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Amarjit Bains and Subdivisional Magistrate of Khanna Sandeep Singh tested positive today.

The DCP (Law and Order) Ashwani Kapoor and ACP (North) Anil Kohli, who succumbed to the virus, had contracted virus earlier.

The residences of the ADC and the SDM have been sealed and the members of their families asked to isolate themselves. Both officers have been admitted to the DMCH. As both are batch mates, they frequently saw each other.

The DC said the ADC was not feeling well yesterday and was having fever and cough, after which he voluntarily opted for testing.

“I have also home-quarantined myself, as I was in regular touch with him. Yesterday, a meeting was held where he was also present. I am hale and hearty, and will be working from home till my report comes,” said the DC. His report came negative in the evening.

The Khanna SDM was also having fever. He had given his sample on July 4.

The district administration office staff, who came in contact with the ADC (G), have been asked to give their samples. A team of the Health Department today collected the samples of 42 people, of which 30 belong to the DC office and 12 to the meritorious school. The ADC was in charge of the Covid care centre set up in the school.

The samples of those who came in contact with the Khanna SDM will be taken tomorrow as his report came in the evening.

Review meeting

Yesterday, the Deputy Commissioner, held a review meeting with officials which was also attended by the ADC (G). All those who were present at the meeting have been asked to home-quarantine themselves.

Officials of the administrative office, Public Relations Department and the Health Department attended the meeting.

The samples of the staff were taken today and will be repeated after five days. The DC has ordered sanitisation of all offices in the administration and the police block.

Meanwhile, a total of 41 cases were reported in the district. Seven staffers of private hospitals, two policemen, one undertrial at Central Jail, two pregnant women, one woman accused from Sahnewal have tested positive.

Seven cases were reported from Industrial Area, seven from Khanna, three from Basti Jodhewal, three from Hargobind Nagar, two from Gurdev Nagar and one each from Baazigar Colony, Central Jail, Shivpuri, Makkar Colony, Railway Colony, Tajpur Road, Prem Nagar, Janakpuri, Haibowal, Shakti Nagar, Dhandra Road, Mundian Khurd, New Model Town and Cheema village.

Top officials asked to home-quarantine themselves

With the ADC testing positive, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma, MC Additional Commissioner Sanyam Aggarwal, who is also nodal officer for Covid, Civil Surgeon Rajesh Bagga, District Epidemiologist Ramesh, SDMs Amrinder Singh Malhi and Baljinder Singh Dhillon, Jagraon ADC Neeru Katyal Gupta, Additional Chief Administrator of GLADA Bhupinder Singh, Regional Transport Authority Damanjit Singh, Joint Commissioners Swati Tiwana and Kulpreet Singh, EO of GLADA Sonam Chaudhary, DRO Joginder Singh, SDO GLADA Harpreet Sekhon and the entire staff of the District Public Relations have been asked to home-quarantine themselves and give their samples for testing. The report of the DC came negative in the evening.
