Ludhiana: 4 held with 3.25-kg heroin worth Rs 16 cr

Ludhiana, June 18

The Special Task Force (STF) wing of Ludhiana made a huge recovery of heroin here today with the arrest of four smugglers in three cases.

The STF recovered 3.25 kg of heroin, worth Rs 16.25 crore in the international market, from the suspects.

In the first case, the STF nabbed two smugglers and recovered 1.4 kg of heroin from their possession. The suspects have been identified as Varinder Kumar (36) of Bhamian Kalan and Surjit Singh (38) of Shanti Vihar colony.

STF Ludhiana in-charge Harbans Singh said Varinder was a tattoo artist and he runs a shop in New Madhopuri. He was already facing two drug smuggling cases. Surjit was also facing three drug smuggling cases. Their dope was also found positive.

In another case, the STF nabbed Varun Tayal (22) of Durga Colony, Focal Point, and recovered 1.5 kg of heroin from his possession. The suspect, a shopkeeper, was nabbed while he was on his way towards Sahnewal side on his scooter to deliver consignment to his clients. He was also a drug addict and his dope test was also positive.

In the third case, the STF nabbed a person, Sunny (30) of Bhamian Kalan, with 350 grams of heroin. The suspect, a painter by profession, was nabbed from near PUDA Ground while he was on his way to deliver heroin to his clients on a motorcycle.

A case under the NDPS Act was registered against the suspects today.

The STF Inspector said they would seek police remand of all suspects so that the entire drug supply could be busted.
