Large number of factory workers getting jabbed

A large number of factory workers and labourers are coming forward to getting themselves vaccinated after many industrial units made vaccination compulsory.

A huge rush of workers, especially migrants, can now be seen coming to session sites for vaccination.

“I was postponing my vaccination due to certain fears in the past but now that my employer has made it compulsory, I have get it done. I work with a construction company and was left with no other option but to get myself vaccinated,” said Sudhir Kumar, a construction worker.

Arun, who is working with an industrial unit, said a vaccination camp was organised at the industrial unit where he works but he was not present that day. “I missed the jab. Everyone around me was vaccinated and I was feeling left out. I also got my vaccination done yesterday as my employer was also insisting on getting the same,” he said.

Chetan, who works in a hosiery unit, said now showing vaccination certificate was compulsory at the border.

“I am planning to return home in Diwali and I required the vaccination certificate. Hence, got my vaccination recently,” he said.

“Earlier, a whole day was wasted in getting jabbed. But now, less time is being taken for the same as a majority of people have already got vaccinated. It was not possible for me to take leave from work as I am a daily wager. During lunch hours, I got my vaccination and returned to work within an hour,” he said.

Badish Jindal, president of the Federation of Punjab Small Industries Associations, said the Health Department should organise more vaccination camps in industrial areas on Sundays when the labourers were free.
