Jarkhar Academy clinch Baba Bakala Hockey Cup

Mata Sahib Kaur Hockey Academy, Jarkhar, began the year 2020 on a positive note, winning the Baba Bakala Gold Cup Hockey Tournament. The tournament was organised in the memory of Balwinder Singh and Kulwant Singh at Baba Bakala in Amritsar district from January 30 to February 2 in which major hockey outfits of the region took part.

This is the second prestigious tournament in which trainees of the Jarkhar Hockey Academy romped home champions. Earlier, they emerged champions in the All-India Dashmesh Hawks Gold Cup Hockey Tournament held at Ropar.

The Jarkhar Academy stamped its supremacy clinching the title, besides a cash prize of Rs 51,000. In the tournament, they defeated ITBP, Jalandhar, 4-2 and overpowered Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala, 3-2 to set up the title clash with the hosts Baba Bakala Khalsa Hockey Club whom they beat 4-1 to lay their hands on winners’ trophy.

Ravinder Singh Kala and Jagtar Singh, both players from the Jarkhar Academy, were also honoured for their outstanding performance in the tournament. Ravinder Singh was declared the player of the tournament and Jagtar was adjudged the best goal keeper.

Narinder Pal Singh Sidhu, AIG, Ferozepur, and chairman of the Mata Sahib Kaur Sports Charitable Trust, along with president advocate Harkamal Singh, general secretary, and other members including Jagdeep Singh Kahlon, sarpanch Balwinder Singh Mehmoodpura, Manmohan Jodhan, Daljeet Singh Jarkhar, Dapinder Singh Dimpy, Paramjeet Singh Neetu, Shingara Singh, Simranjit Singh Dhillon and Yadvinder Singh Toor congratulated the players and their coach Gursatinder Singh Pargat on this achievement.
