Ludhiana, September 22

With the rising number of dengue cases in the city, councillor from Ward No. 57 Manju Aggarwal has demanded from the Municipal Corporation to intensify fogging.

She also sent a memorandum in this regard to Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu today.

Manju Aggarwal, Councillor

Fogging should be conducted at least twice a week in all areas of every ward to check breeding of mosquitoes.

As the MC has not taken any concrete step for the prevention of dengue, she demanded from the Mayor to form a high-level committee to take required steps for purchasing advanced fogging machines and insecticides for all wards for the prevention of vector-borne diseases.

“It is responsibility of the MC to take concrete steps to save people from dengue and other vector-borne diseases. The accumulated water in road gullies and open places should be removed. A special awareness campaign on prevention of dengue should be conducted by the MC, she said”

Manju Aggarwal demanded that fogging should be conducted at least twice a week in all areas of every ward of the city in a proper manner to check the breeding of mosquitoes.

She said spraying with small machines be also conducted in all areas on a daily basis.

“Along with rising Covid-19 cases, dengue cases are also being reported in the city. The handy fogging machines are 10-15 years old. The machine that is available for our ward often stops working. Even if it functions, fogging is conducted with the machine for merely 10-15 minutes daily, due to which only one or two streets are covered,” she said.

Former councillor Inder Aggarwal, husband of Manju Aggarwal, met the Mayor today.

He said: “The MC has not taken any concrete step for the prevention of dengue this year too. People are worried over increasing number of cases. The MC should not focus on constructing roads alone. It should also pay attention to improve the health services in the city. The civic body should also purchase advanced fogging machines for all wards.”

“There are 100 link streets and seven main roads in Ward Number 57. A big fogging machine is being sent by the MC once or twice a month and it runs only for 30 minutes. It is mere an eyewash as the entire ward areas can’t be covered in one go,” he added.
