Inspection of MC water supply records sought

dhiana, August 14

A former councillor Parminder Mehta has sought inspection of the MC records related to the water supply and sewerage charges. “Residents deposit their taxes and charges with the MC, but if payment receipt of any person goes missing, he/she faces harassment,” said Mehta.

“A resident has brought his case into my notice. He paid the water supply charges in March 2020 for which a G8 receipt was issued to him. However, detail of the payment deposited was not recorded in the MC’s computerised system. Now, his receipt has gone missing. Instead of checking the G8 receipt book, the MC has asked the resident to pay the bill with pending arrears,” Mehta added.

“In another case, the size of a property is shown 60 square yards in tax record. In the water supply bill, the size of same property is shown as 600 square yards. Now, the property owner has been asked to pay Rs 2 lakh water supply bill. He has been forced to make multiple rounds of the MC office to get this correction done, but to no avail,” said Mehta, adding that the MC should conduct a probe in such matters and check the record properly.

“We will look into these matters. Residents can submit a letter regarding their issues to the MC water supply and sewerage dispute settlement committee,” said Rajinder Singh, superintending engineer, MC. — TNS
