Inquiry sought into ‘poor’ road work

The role of contractor and officials concerned is under scanner as questions are being raised over the quality of newly-carpeted roads at Dana Mandi near Karabara Chowk, Ludhiana. The area where roads were recently carpeted comes under the Punjab Mandi Board.

Advocate Narinder Aadia has blamed the department concerned for turning a blind eye towards the poor quality of work. He claimed that a newly-laid road has started peeling off from different points. The advocate has also demanded a vigilance inquiry into the matter.

Narinder said, “It seems the road will get washed away in coming rainy season. I have demanded that a vigilance inquiry be marked into the matter. I am going to complain to the district administration in this regard. The action should be taken against those responsible for carrying out poor road work,” he said.

“The road sampling should be done at the earliest. The thickness and strength of the newly-carpeted roads should also be checked,” said Rohit Sabharwal, an RTI activist.

Darshan Lal Baweja, chairman, Ludhiana Market Committee, said, “I have also observed that the work is of sub-standard quality. I will recommend action against the contractor and officials concerned.”
