Innings victory for Ludhiana

Ludhiana began its campaign on a rousing note, scripting an authentic outright victory by an innings and 221 runs, against Nawanshahr in the first league match of Group B in the Punjab State Inter-District (U-16) Cricket Tournament played at Nawanshahr on Friday.

Yesterday, Ludhiana had declared its first innings at 304 runs after losing five wickets in which the pivot role was played by Shabd Tangri (157 not out).

Today, hosts Nawanshahr were out for 40 runs in 34.3 overs thus conceding a huge lead of 264 runs lead. In the second innings, Nawanshahr again failed to put up any resistance and were bundled out for 43 runs, losing it meekly.

Ludhiana’s Anmoljeet Singh captured a total of seven wickets in the match while Shivam Verma scalped six victims to anchor their side wrap up the issue squarely.

With this victory, Ludhiana secured seven points including one bonus point. In the second match, scheduled to be played at Ludhiana on July 17 and 18, Ludhiana will take on Mohali.

Ludhiana (first innings) 304 for 5 declared after 78 overs ( Shabd Tangri 157 not out, Sukhsehaj Singh Narang 35, Yuvraj Pal 31 and Armaan Walia 42; Gurshan Singh 2 for 28, Vansh Bhatia 1 for 51 and Rohanpreet Singh 1 for 56).

Nawanshahr (first innings) 40 all out in 34.3 overs ( Japnoor Singh 8 and Vansh Bhatia 7; Anmolpreet Singh 5 for 16, Shivam Verma 3 for 6 and Divyam Sharma 1 for 6).

Nawanshahr (second innings) 43 all out in 31.3 overs (Udayveer Singh Sandhu and Parag Dhand 9; Shivam Verma 3 for 5, Divyam Sharma 2 for 1, Anmoljeet Singh 2 for 6, Shabd Tangri 1 for 9, Kirat Dhawan 1 for 9 and Savinay Kakkar 1 for 9).
