Ludhiana, November 8

A three-hour long dharna was held by teachers of SCD Government College, here, on Monday as the government allegedly failed to meet their demands.

The teachers said the dharna was organised to protest against two main issues — delay in implementation of the the 7th Pay Commission and delinking of pay scales of teachers from the UGC pay scales. The protesters claimed that the 7th Pay Commission had been implemented in the entire country, except in Punjab.

They said: “A delegation of the teachers had met Education Minister Pargat Singh and Education Secretary Krishan Kumar. They had agreed to take up legitimate demands of the teachers but nothing conclusive has come. The apathetic attitude of the government and the Higher Education Department for the past many years is the reason for regular brain drain from the state to abroad.”

The protesting teachers demand from the government to meet their demands at the earliest.
