Four nabbed with counterfeit currency worth Rs1.07 lakh

The Basti Jodhewal police have nabbed four persons with counterfeit currency worth Rs1.07 lakh. They have been identified as Bhupinder Singh of Tajpur Road, Gurdev Singh of Bhamian Khurd, Amar Singh of Kakowal and Tajinder Singh of Kaka village.

The investigating officer, Sub-inspector Daljit Singh, said a police party present near Basti Jodhewal Chowk got a tip-off that the suspects printed counterfeit currency with the help of computers and they were seen roaming on Rahon Road and New Kuldeep Nagar yesterday.

A police party set up a naka on Rahon Road and cornered the suspects. A search of their belongings yielded fake currency worth Rs1.07 lakh. The police also recovered a scanner, printer and a cutting machine from their possession.

The currency recovered from them was in the denomination of Rs 2000, Rs 200 and Rs 100.

Bhupinder, who is a drug addict, was recently nabbed with 10 gram of heroin. Bhupinder had met someone in the jail who taught him how to print fake currency.

Bhupinder, who is the mastermind of the gang, is fourth standard pass. Initially, they printed currency of lower denomination. After they were able to easily circulate it in the market, the gang started printing notes of higher denomination.
