Gang of slingshot thieves busted in Ludhiana, three in police net

The police claims to have busted a notorious gang of slingshot thieves, who were involved in breaking windowpanes of parked cars and stealing cash and valuables from vehicles. With the arrest of three members of the gang the police claims to have solved five cases of theft from cars in different parts of the city and recovered an Activa scooter (bearing registration No. PB-10EZ-2876), two Lenovo laptops, one HP laptop, one Dell laptop and two Lenovo hard discs.

Addressing an online press conference, the Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP), City, Bhagirath Singh Meena, said the slingshot gang was active in the city for the past few weeks. The gang had stolen cash and valuables from vehicles parked near Fountain Chowk (on August 17), a street in Ghumar Mandi (on August 14), near Government College for Girls in Rakh Bagh (on July 22) and near HDFC Bank, Miller Ganj (on July 21), the JCP said.

The arrested gang members were identified as Gagandeep Singh, alias Gaggi, a resident of Mohalla Preet Nagar, Bhagat Namdev Colony in Shimlapuri, Amarinder Singh, alias Kaka, a resident of Preet Nagar in Shimlapuri, and Dharminder Singh, alias Meshi, a resident of Sooraj Nagar in Shimlapuri, the JCP added.

About the past criminal record of the accused, the JCP said Gagandeep was an accused in three criminal cases and had come out from jail in March 2020 while Dharminder was booked in a case under the NDPS Act.

Further interrogation of the gang members was on, the JCP added.
