Ludhiana: District Magistrate Varinder Kumar Sharma has issued guidelines regarding educational institutes in the district. As per the order issued by the District Magistrate today, the on-line distance learning shall continue to be permitted and shall be encouraged. The schools, colleges, educational and coaching institutions will, however, continue to remain closed for students and regular classes, he said.

He said that 50% of the teaching and non-teaching staff shall be allowed to be called to the schools at a time for online teaching/tele-counselling and related work in areas outside the containment zones only with effect from September 21 as per SOP dated (September 8) issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) in this regard.

The students of Class IX to XII are permitted to visit their schools in areas outside the containment zones only, on a voluntary basis for taking guidance from their teachers. This will be subject to written consent of their parents/guardians and will be permitted as per the SOP issued by the ministry.

The skill or entrepreneurship training is permitted at National Skill Training Institute, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), short-term training centres registered with the National Skill Development Corporation or State Skill Development Missions or other ministries of the Government of India or the state government. Activities of the National Institute for Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) and their training providers are also allowed and these will be permitted as per the SOP issued by the ministry.

As per the order, the higher educational institutions are allowed to open only for research scholars (PhD) and postgraduate students of technical and professional programmers requiring laboratories/experimental works 2020 as per the SOP.

Meanwhile, the open air theatres are permitted to open with social distancing and wearing of face masks/covers. However, cinema halls, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres and similar places will remain closed. — TNS
