Ludhiana, June 5

The rural police today claimed to have solved the four-year-old murder of a retired JBT teacher, Harbans Singh, at Mohi village, Jodhan, with the arrest of four suspects.

Those arrested have been identified as Govind Singh of Dakha, Sandeep Kumar Sippy and Vicky of Dakha. The key conspirator, Sukhwinder Kaur, a resident of Jodhan, is already died.

Accused eyed his gold

The maid knew that Harbans had kept gold in his house as he lent money on interest to needy persons by keeping their jewellery.

Vivek Sheel Soni, Ludhiana Rural SSP, said recently, the investigation was handed over to Dakha SHO Prem Singh who solved the case.

The SSP said Harbans lived alone as his wife had died. He hired Sukhwinder for household works. During investigation, it turned out that Sukhwinder had a criminal background and had relations with criminals.

The woman knew that Harbans had kept gold in his house as he lent money on interest to needy persons by keeping their jewellery.

“The woman hatched a conspiracy with three of her criminal friends to steal cash and gold from Harbans’ house. On April 11, 2016, the three entered the house of the deceased by scaling the boundary wall. As Harbans tried to raise the alarm, the accused tied him to a cot. The trio then attacked him with baseball bats and killed him,” said the Dakha SHO, Inspector Prem Singh, who solved the case.
