Four booked for immigration fraud

Ludhiana, February 17

The police have booked four persons in three cases of immigration fraud.

The Sahnewal police have registered a case under section 420, IPC, and section 24 of the Immigration Act against Amanpreet Kaur, a resident of Harnampura locality, on a complaint of Ram Krishan Verma of Chimney Road. The complainant said in response to an advertisement placed in a vernacular paper, he had paid Rs 8.60 lakh to the agent who had promised to send him to Canada. “The agent neither sent him to Canada nor did she return the money paid to her for this purpose,” said the complainant.

The police have booked Jogi Raj and his wife Rabia Sareen, residents of Raikot, under sections 420, IPC, 24 of the Immigration Act and section 13 (1) of the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act on a complaint filed by Bhagwant Singh, a resident of Dhaipai village. The complaint said the couple had taken Rs 40 lakh for sending his son abroad. However, they failed to manage visa and other documents for his son and also refused to refund the money taken for this purpose.

In yet another immigration fraud, immigration agent Sushil Jagpal of JS Education Consultants, Feroze Gandhi Market here, has been booked under sections 420 of the IPC and 24 of the Immigration Act for cheating Sukhdev Singh of Leehan village in Jagraon subdivision. The suspect had allegedly taken Rs 11.91 lakh from the complainant on the pretext of sending his son abroad. However, he failed to arrange visa and other documents and also refused to pay back the money taken by him. — OC
