Four arrested with 500-gm opium, 285 intoxicating tablets in Ludhiana

Ludhiana: The Ludhiana rural police arrested four smugglers in separate cases and recovered opium and intoxicating tablets from their possession. In the first case, the Sadar police, Jagraon, nabbed three smugglers and recovered 500 gram of opium from them. The arrested smugglers have been identified as Amandeep Singh of Jalaldiwal, near Jagraon, Gurtej Singh, alias Teji, of Raikot, and Pritpal Singh of Goindwal, near Raikot. Investigation officer Sub-Inspector Davinder Singh said on a tip-off that the three smugglers were on the way to deliver consignment of opium to their clients, a police party laid a naka near Galib Kalan village. After intercepting their motorcycle, they were checked and opium was recovered from them. In another case, the Sidhwan Bet police nabbed a smuggler and recovered 285 intoxicating tablets from him. The smuggler has been identified as Harjit Singh, alias Kallu, of Salempur Tibba village. Investigation officer SI Sukhjinder Singh said a police party was patrolling near Sidhwan Bet where acting on a tip-off a naka was laid at a strategic point and the smuggler was nabbed. A case under Section 22 of the NDPS Act was registered against him. TNS
