Five more succumb, 85 fresh cases

Five more persons have lost their lives due to Covid-19 in the district. Besides, 85 fresh cases have been reported here today.

The Health Department confirmed 104 cases today. Of them, 85 cases are from Ludhiana and 19 cases are from other districts or states. As per information, 14 persons of Ludhiana district were contacts of positive patients, 23 visited the OPD and 38 with influenza like illness visited the flu corner. Besides, 10 others, including a patient with severe acute respiratory illness (SARI), tested positive for the virus.

Civil Surgeon Rajesh Bagga confirmed that 11 persons, including five from Ludhiana district, two from J&K, one each from Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot and Jalandhar districts, died of Covid. Those who died of the virus from Ludhiana district are a 35-year-old man from Deepak Cinema Road, a 78-year-old man from Narinder Nagar, near Samrala, a 60-year-old woman from Agwar Ladhai, Jagraon, a 84-year-old man and 52-year-old man from Ludhiana.

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said at present, there were 767 active patients in the district.

He said sincere efforts were being made to keep people safe from Covid-19.

He said till date, a total of 4,22,250 samples had been taken, of which reports of 4,20,613 samples had been received. Of these, 3,95,927 samples were found negative while reports of 1,637 samples were pending.

The DC said now, the total number of patients related to Ludhiana is 21,665, while 3,021 patients were related to other districts/states. Now, the total number of persons who lost their lives include 875 persons from Ludhiana and 358 from other districts.

He said till date, 48,782 persons had been kept under home quarantine in the district and at present, the number of such persons was 1,453. Today, 153 persons were sent for home quarantine. As many as 1,686 samples of suspected patients were sent for testing today and their results were expected shortly.
