Five land in police net for profiteering

Ludhiana, April 6

The Sahnewal police have arrested Kamlesh Kumar, owner of Kamlesh Karyana Store at Dr Ambedkar Nagar, Lohara, under sections 188/270 of the IPC and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act for sale of ration at prices higher than the maximum retail price. The police had acted against the karyana dealer on a complaint lodged by Manjit Singh Khurana, Inspector of the Department of Food, Supplies and Consumer Affairs.

Elsewhere in the city, the police nabbed Naval Kumar from Guru Nanak Colony in Dhandari Kalan under sections 188/269 of the IPC for selling beedi/cigarettes at his shop in violation of the prohibitory orders while Sudesh Kumar (from Matharoo Chowk), Rahul Kumar (from Dashmesh Market in Dhandari Khurd) and Alok Gupta (from Kuliewal on Jamalpur Road) were held for opening their karyana shops without permission from the authorities. They have been booked under sections 188/269/270 of the IPC.
