Fifth suspect arrested in 30-kg gold robbery case in Moga

A team of the Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU) of the Punjab Police arrested Gursewak Singh, a resident of Goluwala village, near Kot Isse Khan in Moga district, here, in the 30-kg gold robbery case.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, who heads the OCCU, said Gursewak was arrested in the ongoing special operation by the OCCU team.

“He will be produced in the court as per procedure,” said the IGP. He said one of the key suspects Jaipal was at large and OCCU teams had been deputed along with the district police to nab the culprit.

The OCCU nabbed an inter-state gangster, Gagandeep Singh, alias Gagan Judge, in Chandigarh in March and got a major breakthrough in the gold robbery case. The OCCU recovered around Rs 31 lakh, besides a pistol, two magazines and 50 live cartridges from the possession of Gagan Judge. Gagan and his gang members are involved in more than 24 incidents of contract killing and other heinous criminal cases.

Following Gagan’s arrest, two more accused, Pardeep Singh of Gardiwala village (Hoshiarpur), and Harpreet Singh of Peer Mohammad village (Ferozepur) district were arrested by the OCCU team. Pardeep was actively involved in the gold robbery in Ludhiana while Harpreet was harboring the suspects as all culprits stayed at his house for one week before committing the crime and one night after the crime. Later, Amritpal Bhullar was arrested by the OCCU team, who is the brother of Jaipal. He was also actively involved in the crime.

Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta praised the OCCU team for making exemplary efforts in cracking the case.

He reiterated the Punjab Police commitment to maintain law and order in the state and eradicate the gangsters’ menace from the state. The DGP also awarded the OCCU team for successfully cracking the Ludhiana robbery case. Meanwhile, a chargesheet has been filed in a Ludhiana court in the case.

No recovery in 2-kg gold loot case, victim to meet CM, DGP

Notably on January 29 this year, masked robbers barged into VK Jewellers in Ghumar Mandi where they had held the owner and a worker captive and looted 2 kg of gold worth Rs 90 lakh. Four months have passed, but the Ludhiana Commissionerate was yet to nab the main suspect in the incident or failed to make any gold recovery, the owner of the jewellery, Vinay Jain, said. He said since the Ludhiana police had failed to make any gold recovery, he had decided to meet the Punjab DGP and the CM so that the police could make serious efforts to recover the gold.
