Few pvt schools reopen with Covid precautions

The state government has given its nod to the reopening of schools in a planned manner while adhering to the Covid-19 guidelines. A few private schools in the city have resumed classes for students of classes X and XII with around 12-15 pupils in each class. As far as the government schools are concerned, standard operating orocedures (SOPs) are awaited and principals believe that in coming few days, the schools for higher classes will start with the consent of parents.

Schools that opened today, include BCM School, Nankana Sahib Public School, Guru Nanak International Public School etc.

Talking to The Tribune, Paramjit Kaur, Principal, BCM School, Shastri Nagar, said for classes X and XII, the students were called to attend the classes. “We are getting feedback from parents as well as students. The parents are more than willing to attend the classes. But taking all the precautions, we are allowing just about 12 students in each class initially. Once more students start coming up, we will allow upto 20 students, as per the guidelines”, added the Principal.

Dr DS Chhina, Principal, Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Shahpur, said fresh instructions from the government were awaited.

“We are mentally prepared to open the schools but are waiting for a formal announcement by the government. Students and parents are being told to get ready as classes start anytime soon,” said Dr Chhina.

Principals of leading private schools maintained that they are in touch with the parents for valuable feedback. “We are not going to enforce our decision and it will be solely on parents if they wish to send their children. Though most of the time of the year has gone but still in the last 2-3 months, students can get their doubts cleared from the concerned subject teachers. The health of children is our priority, at the same time we have to ensure that studies of students must not suffer,” said one of the principals of a private school.
