Farmers protest over moong procurement

Ludhiana, June 13

Members of the Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta), Dakaunda, staged a protest outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner on Monday. The protesting farmers demanded unconditional procurement of moong crop in the grain markets.

Mohinder Singh, district president of the union, said they submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and demanded that the government must revoke the “draconian” conditions fixed for procurement of moong crop. He also raised the matter of the ongoing strike of arhtiyas and labourers at ‘mandis’.
