Doraha, December 23

Holding black flags in their hands, farmers of the region observed Farmers Day as Kala Diwas (black day) by the farmers of the region on Wednesday. They condemned the ‘indifferent’, and ‘apathetic’ attitude of the Union Government towards the genuine demands of the farmers.

“It is in fact the blackest day of our lives. We are on the verge of total collapse due to the arbitrary dictates of the government. It is after all our livelihood that is going to be seriously affected. It is nothing less than the second war of independence from corporates. With these laws, the Centre is forcing the farmers to become the slaves of big corporate houses and multinational companies,” rued Shaan Mangat, president, Ghulal Toll Morcha.

“What can be more unfortunate and painful than finding farmers, including women and children caught up in such a hard situation? After all, each and every body has the right to put forth the demands before the government and that too in a peaceful manner. It is still time that they take back these laws to rebuild their confidence in the farming community and the public in general,” expressed Sukhwinder Singh of Rohla village.

The farmers also condemned in unequivocal terms the false and malicious propaganda against the secular agitation of farmers, which has got support not only from all communities of Punjab but also from farmers of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, MP, Gujarat, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, etc. — OC
