Sahnewal, August 24

Harbans Singh Sains, a social worker of Sahnewal, seems too busy these days. He gets up early and visits all public places, offices, shops etc. to check if social distancing is being maintained in spirit or not.

This correspondent found him managing the public at a Sewa Kendra and asking them to maintain proper distance to keep themselves and their families safe. Not only this, he met officials of the Seva Kendra and asked them to issue tokens to the public standing outside, so that they may know their number and report accordingly.

Sains can be easily seen at the Community Health Centre, Sahnewal, where he apprises patients and their attendants to maintain proper physical distance and wear masks to avoid the spread of the disease. He also visits markets to check that there is no crowding in front of shops and the people are maintaining social distancing. Since, he has no official authority to check, he humbly requests people to follow the norms for the well-being of others.

Apart from requesting people, he also brings public issues to the notice of the higher authorities every now and then.

When asked as to why he is putting his own life at risk by getting exposed to huge crowds each day, he replied, “Someone has to do it. I think this is the sole purpose of coming into the world. I am simply doing my duty. I know well that I have earned more foes than friends, but I love to be the voice of the voiceless.”

“At this critical time, when there is a sudden spike in Covid cases, it is our duty to support the administration and the Police Department. I am doing my part,” he added.
