Doc, friend fire gunshots during brawl, nabbed

Ludhiana: The PAU police arrested a city-based doctor, Hari Om (39), and his friend Vineet Bhandari (38) on the charges of firing gunshots at the Rishi Nagar market outside Aman Chicken on Friday night. The police also impounded a .32 bore licenced revolver of Vineet along with a Toyota Fortuner (bearing registration no. PB06 U 0050). A case of attempt to murder under the Arms Act was registered against both accused on Saturday. ADCP 3 Sameer Verma said yesterday information was received that some persons were indulged in a brawl at the Rishi Nagar market and two persons who came in a Fortuner had also fired gunshots at Ranvir Verma and his friends. Afterwards, a police party was sent to the spot. The accused had fled in the Fortuner. The duo had also thrashed Ranvir due to which he suffered head injuries and was rushed to the Civil Hospital for treatment. Complainant Ranvir and friends had a fortunate escape when the accused fired gunshots. The ADCP said the doctor and his friend were arrested from Rishi Nagar. The weapon and the vehicle used in the crime was also seized. Police sources said the police might go ahead with cancellation of arms licence of the doctor. TNS
