Division 3, 8 police stations closed in Ludhiana

The city police have come under a sharp attack from Covid-19 with as many as 22 personnel, including a station house officer (SHO), testing positive in a single day. With the fresh cases, the number of Covid-affected policemen has gone up to 76.

Stopgap arrangement

In the intervening period, the routine work of Police Division No. 3 would be conducted from Police Division No. 1 (City Kotwali) while the staff of Police Division No. 8 would function from the Sadar police station Sadar.

As the Station House Officer of Police Division 3 and four of his subordinate staff members tested positive, the police station has been closed for three days for comprehensive sanitisation. Similarly, Police Division 8 station has also been closed to public for three days after four police personnel tested positive. Two more employees in the Police Commissioner’s office were found infected.

Police officials said all contacts of the infected police personnel

were being located and advised to get them tested for Covid soon. They would also be asked to go for self-quarantine as a precautionary measure even if they tested negative.

Out of these cases, Assistant Commissioner of Police/North Anil Kohli had lost his battle to the virus while 31 staffers have been cured till now.
