Diva gill shines in writing contest

Ludhiana: Diva Gill, a Class XII student of Kundan Vidya Mandir School, Civil Lines, has been selected for the National level Scholastic Quill Club Writers’ Programme. The event was conducted by Quill Club in collaboration with Scholastic. She cleared the first two levels and got selected to be a part of the programme along with 21 other students from across the country. The selection process was a stringent one, identifying talented writers from over 1,200 students across the country. Diva went through an creative and interactive mentioning process conducted by renowned persons in the literacy industry, to come up with a fine story. It was a 10-day programme in which the students experienced what it is like to be on the presenting as well as receiving end of an editorial board that reviews stories by authors. While sharing her experience, Diva said: “It helped me grow as an author as well as an individual. Not all our story ideas were accepted. My first story idea was rejected and it was difficult at first to take criticism but later it helped me come up with a better story. The most important thing that I have learnt is that stories exist all around us,” all these stories will be published as an e-book.” Principal Navita Puri congratulated her and her parents.

Reading activity held

BCM Arya International, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana, conducted an activity, ‘Drop Everything And Read.’ Students from Classes I-XI were provided reading material as per their level and were motivated to read in the virtual presence of their teachers and friends. Not just reading books, but also the importance of using a dictionary was highlighted as it was mandatory for all students to have their dictionaries handy to look up words they are unfamiliar with. With the planning of faculty and cooperation from parents and enthusiasm of the students, the activity was smoothly conducted. Principal of the school Paramjit Kaur said no matter how digital the world might become, books would always be an original source of knowledge and a friend providing solace in turbulent times, adding to our emotions.

Students celebrate Teej

BCM School, Basant City, celebrated Teej virtually. All students dressed in ethnic attire relished traditional sweets. Girls were excited to apply heena on their hands and enjoyed on decorated swings. Students danced on Punjabi folk songs. Principal JP Singh conveyed a message that the aim of organizing various cultural activities was to help students relate and bond with their culture.

Unit tests conducted

The online model examinations was conducted by Guru Hargobind Public School, Sidhwan Khurd, from July 15 to 28 for Classes I to XII. The first unit tests are being conducted on separate days as per schedule. The school decided to conduct the online examinations to ensure students are well-prepared for the tests and have revised subjects which they are learning through the online teaching. The examinations are being conducted by providing links of ‘Google Forms’ app to the students by the teachers. The links are being shared to the students through a WhatsApp group.

Webinar on importance of sports

Gurbir Singh Sandhu, Director, Department of Sports, BML Munjal University, visited BCM School, Chandigarh Road, where a webinar was conducted for students of Classes XI-XII. He guided them about the importance of sports in life. He also had an interaction with sports faculty and principals of all BCM Schools JP Singh (BCM School, Basant City), Neeru Kaura (BCM School, Focal Point), Shivani (BCM Pre- School), representatives from BCM School, Dugri, principal of host school DP Guleria and manager Prem Kumar. Sandhu is an Olympian and civil engineer from Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana. Students and sports teachers got benefitted from his rich experience of 42 years of sports engineering and international business consulting. Sandhu had also been awarded Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award and Arjuna Award in sports. TNS
