Demands report on illegal constructions

  • The CVO has demanded a report about encroachments on the roofs of 74 booths in the city. Besides, the officer has asked what action has been taken into laying of substandard roads in the city.

The Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of Local Government Department, Punjab, has written to the MC Commissioner to send the action taken reports on the complaints related to encroachments and substandard road work in the city.

Earlier, an RTI activist Rohit Sabharwal had complained against alleged corrupt practices by some officials in the MC’s two branches, including the building branch and B&R branch and loss worth crores of rupees to the public exchequer.

Following the complaints, the CVO has asked the commissioner that what action has been taken against the encroachments as per an order of the Punjab & Haryana High Court. The CVO has also sought a report on the illegal constructions in the city.

The Chief Vigilance Officer has demanded a report about encroachments on the roofs of 74 booths in the city. Besides, the CVO has asked that what action has been taken into laying of substandard roads in the city. He has also questioned that whether the road works were conducted as per the specifications or not. If the road works have not been done as per the norms, what action has been taken against contractor/employees concerned, he questioned.
