Ludhiana, December 16

After work orders were approved for the recarpeting of the Dugri Road stretch (from Atam Park police post to Canal Bridge and then up to the Dugri police station) and reconstruction of the Dugri police station chowk to the Cremation Ground road, the credit war is on between the Congress and the Lok Insaaf Party (LIP).

Congress leaders Kamaljit Singh Karwal, Gurpreet Gopi and councillor Harkaran Singh Vaid, in the presence of some shopkeepers and residents, inaugurated the road works near Bagga Tent House in Urban Estate on Wednesday evening. Claiming the credit for the works, Congress leaders said they had raised the demand before the civic body authorities for carrying out the works. The cremation ground road had got badly damaged.

Congress councillor from Ward 44 Harkarandeep Singh Vaid said the ready mix concrete (RMC) work on the stretch from the Dugri police station chowk to the Cremation Ground had been started.

Vaid said he got the road project approved and now started. He said interlocking tiles would also be installed on sides of the road.

On the other hand, Lok Insaaf Party has claimed credit for the road works. In a press note issued by the LIP on Thursday, it was claimed that the MLA from Atam Nagar, Simarjit Singh Bains, was honoured today for getting the road projects started on the Atam Nagar police post to the Canal Bridge stretch, Canal Bridge to the Dugri police station road and the Dugri police station to the cremation ground road.

Bains said the LIP was carrying out a lot of development works in Urban Estate, Dugri.
