Covid surge continues in Ludhiana

Another patient succumbs, 79 more test positive in district

A Covid patient succumbed and 79 more tested positive for the disease in the district today. The 35-year-old deceased was also suffering from blood cancer. He breathed his last at Oswal Hospital.

Those testing positive include a 50-year-old policeman of the city control room and a 48-year-old cop from Kanija village.

A 52-year-old man from Mata Rani Mohalla and 28-year-old resident of Manik Majra village, who visited a flu corner at Civil Hospital, Khanna, also tested positive (rapid antigen test). The number of cases from Khanna town has reached 95.

The positive cases also include 16 persons with influenza-like illness, 17 patients reporting at OPDs and 43 people reached out under contact tracing.

The fresh positive cases are from Model Town, Gill Road, Giaspura, Salem Tabri, Deep Nagar, Tajpur Road, Bains Ayali Kalan village, Raikot, Kila Raipur, Phullanwal, Kakowal Road, Janakpuri, Nanaksar Gurdwara, Ferozepur Road, Brown Road, Urban Estate and Model Town.

Meanwhile, Ram Nagar and Ashok Nagar were declared micro-containment zones. Now, there are a total of nine micro-containment zones in Ludhiana.

Mass media teams step up awareness drive

The mass media teams of the Health Department intensified their awareness drive on Covid-19. The teams have covered the urban areas and now, their vans are ready to move to the rural areas of the district.

Dr Rajesh Kumar Bagga, Civil Surgeon of Ludhiana, said people were scared of Covid but they should also know that it was very easy to stay away from this virus. All they need to do is follow the guidelines issued by the Health Department. Basic precautions such as wearing masks, washing hands and maintaining social distance are the best way to keep Covid-19 at bay, said Dr Bagga.

Right way to wash hands

Explaining the right way to wash hands, Block Extension Educator (BEE) Rajinder Singh said first wet your hands with clean water and create lather by using soap, then rub palms together, rub the back of hands, interlink your fingers, rub palms with your finger tips, and finally clean your thumb and wrist. All these steps should be completed in a minimum span of 20 seconds, and then rinse well and dry the hands.

14 held for violation of guidelines

Going ahead with bringing to book those violating restrictions imposed under lockdown due to threat of Covid-19, the city police have arrested 14 persons in the city for not wearing masks, violating social-distancing norm or keeping business establishments open after the stipulated time. They have been booked under sections 188 and 269 of the IPC and/or relevant sections of the Epidemic Diseases Act and Disaster Management Act.
