Covid claims 6 lives in Ludhiana, 111 test +ve

For the third consecutive day today, the number of persons who tested positive crossed the 100-mark in the district.

The figure touched 111 today, while six persons succumbed to the virus. Six persons were on ventilator support today.

Those who lost their lives today included an 82-year-old woman from Brown Road who was also suffering from diabetes and was admitted to the Civil Hospital. A 79-year-old man from Rani Jhansi Road who was also suffering from diabetes and coronary artery disease was admitted to Deepak Hospital and lost his life today. A 77-year-old male from Basant Nagar, suffering from diabetes, anaemia and hypertension, died due to the virus.

A 71-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man also succumbed to coronavirus. They had been admitted to the CMCH and DMCH, respectively. A 56-year-old woman from Parbhat Nagar also lost her life today.

Out of the 111 persons who tested positive today, 47 were referred from flu corners, 16 from OPDs, 19 were contacts, while the tracing of 19 persons was on.

Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Bagga said sincere efforts were being made to keep people safe from Covid-19. He said a total of 111 new patients from Ludhiana district had tested positive in the past 24 hours. Now, the positive patients from the district had reached 22,457, while 894 had lost their lives.

At present, there are 874 active cases and today 166 persons were sent for home quarantine.

Till date, 50,091 persons had been kept under home quarantine in the district and at present, the number of such persons was 1,992.
