Covid-19: Virus claims six more lives in Ludhiana

Covid-19 has claimed life of six more persons in the district. Besides, as many as 163 fresh cases were reported in the district today. The Health Department confirmed 207 positive cases, including 163 from Ludhiana and 44 from other districts or states, today. Out of 163 cases, 22 patients came in contact with positive patients, 36 visited OPD and 68, who had influenza like illness (ILI), visited the flu corner.

Four pregnant women, three cops, two healthcare workers, one undertrial and 27 others, including two suffering from severe acute respiratory illness, tested positive for the virus today.

The Health Department further confirmed that 11 persons, including six from Ludhiana, one each from Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur, Moga and Sangrur, died of Covid-19 here today.

Those from Ludhiana district, who died of virus, include a 61-year-old man from Madhopuri, a 55-year-old man from Raikot, a 63-year-old man from Sudhar, a 58-year-old man from Khanna, a 61-year-old man from Sector 38 on Chandigarh Road, and a 62-year-old woman from Nanak Nagar, Ludhiana. In all, 741 persons from Ludhiana district have lost their lives to Covid-19 till date.

At present, 29 patients, including 15 from Ludhiana and 14 from other districts, are on ventilator support. As many as 4,826 samples for Covid-19 test were collected today.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Varinder Sharma said the number of Covid-19 patients getting cured in Ludhiana district was increasing with each passing day.

“There are 1,051 active patients in the district at present. Till date, 2,73,854 samples have been collected out of which report of 2,72,198 samples has arrived. The report of 2,52,016 samples is negative while that of 1,656 samples is pending,” the DC added.

“Now, the total number of patients related to Ludhiana is 17,958, while 2,224 patients are related to other districts/states,’ the DC said. “Till date, 43,803 persons have been home quarantined in the district and at present, the number of such persons is 3,749. Today, 134 persons have been home quarantined,” the DC added.

The DC appealed to residents to follow all directions of the Punjab Government. “If residents stay indoors, they will not only be safe, but also help in protecting everyone from the virus,” the DC said.
