Covid-19: Ludhiana district logs nine deaths

174 fresh infections surface as dept collects 4,652 samples

Covid-19 today claimed nine more lives in the district. As many as 174 fresh infections were reported.

Those who died of virus include a 46-year-old man from Loppo village, a 52-year-old man from Shimlapuri, a 65-year-old man from Amarpura, a 72-year-old man from Sector 32, a 33-year-old man from Bhamian Kalan, a 64-year-old resident of Gurdev Nagar, a 70-year-old man from Urban Estate, a 70-year-old resident of BRS Nagar and a 53-year-old man from GT Road, Ludhiana.

The Health Department confirmed 215 fresh cases, including 174 from Ludhiana and 41 from other districts or states. Besides, the department confirmed that 15 persons, including nine from Ludhiana district and one each from Sangrur, Jalandhar, Patiala, Gurdaspur, Moga and Nawanshahr, died of virus today.

Of 174 fresh cases reported in the district today, 19 persons are contacts of Covid patients, 44 visited OPDs and 60 reported at flu corners. Five policemen, three healthcare workers and three pregnant women were among the patients.

The Civil Surgeon, Dr Rajesh Bagga, said the samples of 2,37,420 persons had been taken and of them, 16,599 tested positive to date. He said 14,380 (86.63%) patients had recovered. A total of 677 patients have died of Covid in the district.

The Health Department collected 4,652 samples today. At present, 29 patients are on ventilator.
