Contractual staff shut Ludhiana bus stand

Accusing the AAP government of failing to meet their demands, members of the Punjab Roadways, PUNBUS and PRTC Contract Workers Union closed the local bus stand for around two hours here today. As a result, passengers had to face a lot of inconvenience.

Passengers got stranded at the bus stand. Most of them were forced to keep waiting for buses outside the bus stand. Moreover, a number of buses were parked on the main road, leading to traffic jams.

Passengers said they faced inconvenience due to the closure of the bus stand. Contractual employees had closed the bus stand several times earlier too, but the government seemed to be failing to pay any heed to their demands.

Satnam Singh, president of the local depot unit of the union, said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government failed to fulfil the promises made with the contractual employees before the Assembly

elections. Instead of regularising the jobs of contractual employees, the state government even failed to release their salaries on time.

The protesting contractual workers said they had earlier held a meeting with the Punjab Transport Minister, but nothing had been done to address their demands so far. They warned that if their demands were not met, they would be forced to block roads in the entire Punjab on July 19 and go on a strike.

‘AAP Govt failed to fulfil promises’
