Cases surge in Ludhiana, 61 in a day

5 testing +ve have travel history, 17 are contacts of patients

The district today saw the highest jump in Covid-19 cases in a day with 61 people testing positive. Of a total of 66 people who tested positive for Covid today, five belonged to other districts. Two patients from other districts succumbed to the disease.

Five positive persons have a travel history. A youth from Islam Ganj had travelled to Mumbai. Three persons, including two women, had a travel history to MP. A 22-year-old man had travelled abroad.

Two positive cases are from the micro containment zone of Krishna Colony on Bhamian Road. A 36-year-old man from the containment zone of Islam Ganj also tested positive.

Seventeen of the new Covid-positive persons are contacts of previous patients and they belong to Chandigarh Road, New Ashok Nagar, Behind Duke area, Smart Colony Giaspura, Basant Avenue, Guru Nanak Pura, Sahnewal, Guru Harikrishan Nagar in Giaspura, SBS Nagar, New Aman Nagar, Shimlapuri, Ram Nagar, Talwara and Rasurpur Mallah villages in Jagraon.

Five persons with Influenza like-illness also tested positive. They are from Bhai Himmat Singh Nagar, Aggar Nagar and Urban Estate of Dugri.

39 declared cured

As many as 39 patients have been declared cured in the past 24 hours. The number of patients discharged from hospitals has reached 485 in the district. According to administration, 13,032 persons have been kept under home quarantine in the district to date. At present, the number of persons under home quarantine is 3,514.

Meanwhile, a 69-year-old man from Fatehgarh Sahib died of Covid at SPS Hospital. He was a diabetic, hypertensive and had pneumonia. A 17-year-old girl from Chandigarh, who was admitted to the Civil Hospital, Ludhiana, also lost her life. She had come for treatment of some other disease but also tested positive for Covid.
