Police personnel, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Rakesh Agarwal, today took out a candle march from the railway station to the Clock Tower chowk in the evening to commemorate the “Police martyrs’ week”.
Serving personnel of the police, GRP and RPF took part in the march which was also attended by Joint Commissioners J Elachezian and Bhagirath Meena, ADCP Deepak Pareek, ACP Waryam Singh, DSP of the GRP Pradeep Sandhu along with inspector Anil Kumar and Harjeet Singh of the RPF.
An elaborate police band welcomed the march on its conclusion at Clock Tower Chowk by paying tributes to the police martyrs who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
Paying their homage to the martyrs, officials said the week was commemorated in Punjab and other states across the nation in remembrance of the bravehearts of the police force.
The occasion also delivered the message to society that the men in uniform were always prepared to make sacrifices to ensure the safety of life and property of the people and people also remembered them. At the same time, kin of the police personnel who had sacrificed their life for the nation were assured that the department always stood by them to fulfil all their needs.
