Heart patient undergoes OCT procedure

Ludhiana: The optical coherence tomography (OCT) procedure was done on a heart patient. A patient had undergone stenting for heart attack at other hospital two months back. He was admitted at Ludhiana Mediways Hospital. Dr Manbir Singh Khurana, Senior Cardiologist, checked him and found out that his stent has been blocked with clot. “We cleared the clot from stent and ballooning was done. The optical coherence tomography is a gold standard technique to visualise arteries from inside with high resolution upto 15 micrometer. We did it in this patient to check the cause of stent clot after opening it. OCT is a standard technique now used worldwide to evaluate and optimise stent placement and look for any complication,” he said.
