Biker killed in road accident

Ludhiana: A motorcyclist was killed when a speeding truck hit his bike at Ladhowal on Friday. The victim, identified as Gurjit Singh of Talwan village, died on the spot while a woman from the same village, Surinder Kaur, who took a lift from the deceased, suffered injuries. She has been admitted to a local hospital. The truck driver was caught by passersby and handed over to the Ladhowal police. TNS

Tractor-trailers impounded

Ludhiana: The Ladhowal police have impounded two tractor-trailers laden with illegally mined sand from the Sutlej near Phillaur. The police said they conducted a raid following a tip-off. The suspects escaped on sight of the police, leaving their tractor-trailers near the river. Investigation was underway to identify the owners of the tractor-trailers. A case under the Mining Act has been registered. TNS
