Ludhiana, March 15

Banking services were suspended today due to the 2-day nationwide strike — March 15 and 16 — against the proposed privatisation of public sector banks.

On the call given by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), a massive rally was organised by UFBU Ludhiana in front of Canara Bank, Bharat Nagar Chowk.

PR Mehta, president, Punjab Bank Employees’ Federation, addressed the rally and said the Budget presented by the Finance Minister was only full of ‘claims’ and ‘rhetoric’.

Another member stated that in the garb of efficiency and misconceived policy to shrug off responsibility, the Centre had decided to privatise public sector banks, which the bank employees would never allow.
