Auto driver who robbed his passengers nabbed

Ludhiana, June 27

The Salem Tabri police have nabbed an auto-rickshaw driver who robbed his passengers of cash and valuables. He has been identified as Sanjay Kumar of Dr Ambedkar Nagar.

Additional DCP 1 Deepak Pareek, in a statement issued here today, said on June 25, ASI Jagdev Singh was present on Jalandhar bypass when Tarsem Lal Jain of Jain Colony, Hoshiarpur, informed him that he had been robbed by an auto driver.

Jain said he had come to Ludhiana for some work. He boarded an auto in which a passenger was already sitting. The auto driver called the passenger with the name of Sanjay. After reaching the destination, he was pushed out of the auto by the passenger and the auto driver sped away. Jain later came to know that Rs2 lakh kept in his pocket had been stolen.

The ADCP said the police arrested the driver and recovered Rs1.7 lakh from him. His accomplice is at large. The police are conducting raids to nab him.
